That’s right, I turn 39 on Saturday. I have to admit, this one sort of snuck up on me. Perhaps it’s because I haven’t had a lot going on this summer, or the fact that I’ve been busy chasing a foster puppy around the past two weeks, but I didn’t realize it was almost my birthday until exactly one week ago. After my mom and I had a catch-up call, she texted me saying she was sorry we wouldn’t be spending my birthday together, and that’s when I realized it had totally slipped my mind! Luckily I was able to throw some sort of celebration with my friends this weekend fairly last minute. I’m grabbing dinner and going out with one group Saturday night, followed by a fun brunch with my Mahjong group on Sunday! I also snagged a resy at a place for Friday night for drinks and snacks, so I think I have a pretty full and happy weekend ahead.
Separately, I’ll be taking the foster puppy, Miko, to an adoption event on Saturday at PetCo in Union Square! They usually host one every Saturday, but with 4th of July last weekend they didn’t have one. Hopefully Miko will find her forever family at this event this weekend! As much fun as it’s been, I’m pretty ready to get back to just having Reeses to take care of. Miko has made me realize just how far Reeses has come since she was a puppy! She was such a handful when she was younger (and still has her moments), but as she’s gotten older she has settled down quite a bit… and she’s made me less rigid too! We’ve got our own little routine and it’s something I’m now very grateful for after dealing with the chaos of a puppy these past two weeks. Fingers crossed Miko gets adopted soon!!
A bit of warning, today’s episode starts a little depressing - when I recorded this episode I was a bit in my feels and end up doing a bit of complaining for the first ten minutes or so. I’m mostly chatting about feeling more single and alone than ever, especially during summer when everyone seems to be traveling with their significant other or a group of friends. I really wanted to make travel plans with friends this summer, but it just didn’t pan out based on other people’s existing financial commitments, travel plans, etc, and I’ve felt a little stuck. I can absolutely travel solo, and I’ve done it so many times in previous years, but I’m sort of at the point where that doesn’t sound interesting to me anymore.
Anywho, feel free to fast forward and just know I’m aware of how much of a first world problem this is - it’s just something I’m frustrated by that I think will eventually correct itself as I strengthen friendships and widen my social circle here in New York. As for what else you can expect in this episode? An update on Miko, dissecting what we know about Taylor Swift’s wedding at Madison Square Garden, and two rave reviews on a new movie and audiobook I devoured this past week! Enjoy!
