Weekend reading list: 6.27.25
Plus a festive roundup of red, white, and blue picks for the Fourth!
NYC
One thing I was not expecting about NYC was the sheer number of private clubs! Of course I’ve been to events at Soho House back in Texas, but now it’s all about spots like San Vicente, The Twenty Two, and Chez Margaux. Since the pandemic, private clubs have been making a comeback and nowhere else is that more apparent than New York! These aren’t your old school country club haunts where you have to be born into the right family, the new social clubs are less about pedigree and more about money and affinity! The author calls this “commoditization of elitism” and argues that in a time when more people are spending time alone, perhaps social clubs (even where you pay to play) aren’t such a bad thing!
FOOD & DRINK
We all know the harmful health risks that come with drinking alcohol, but is there a least bad alcohol if you do want to partake? In short, no. But, a good rule for reducing your exposure to harmful ingredients in alcohol is to generally choose drinks with lower A.B.V.s which typically means sticking with wine or beer over liquor! In general, beer has less ethanol (which in large quantities can be harmful) than wine per ounce, and wine has less than liquor. Another good tip if you’re trying to err on the side of healthy-ish is to avoid drinks that mix alcohol and caffeine. The caffeine may trick you into thinking you’re less drunk than you are!
TRAVEL
I mentioned in last week’s catch-up that I’m just a few weeks away from my summer trip to Paris and starting to make restaurant bookings! Trying new restaurants is one of my favorites parts of travel, so this list of the world’s 50 best restaurants couldn’t have come out at a better time! Surprisingly, there’s only one US restaurant that made the top 50 list — Atomix, a 2 Michelin star Korean restaurant in midtown Manhattan. There are a couple of Parisian spots on the list as well as a few in London (another favorite city of mine!) plus a handful in Italy. Restaurants in Asia and South America really dominate the list!
MENTAL HEALTH
I loved these tips on how to be a more patient person! Of course some people are just naturally better at adjusting to uncertainty or giving others the benefit of the doubt, but if you want to practice more patience in your own life the good news is it’s actually a skill you can build! Behind every impatient person is a need for control (lol, me), so learning how to build empathy for others, slow down, and find other ways to release that restless energy can help you navigate challenging situations in a more calm way. Ironically enough, moving to New York (which is full of impatient people) has actually taught me to be more patient!

HAIR
The bob is officially the coolest hair cut for the summer! Sofia Richie, Selena Gomez, and Zendaya are all rocking short hair for the summer and last week Jenna Bush Hager even got a bob haircut live on The Today Show inspired by Leslie Bibb! I feel like I was a bit ahead of this trend as I had a bob starting in 2023 - it’s such a chic look, but I’ve been growing it out a bit because I was craving a change. But now this has me thinking…should I go shorter again?
RED, WHITE AND GINGHAM
With the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale launching next week and my Paris trip right around the corner, I don’t have any major plans for celebrating July 4th! I’ll likely be spending most of the holiday weekend getting as much work done is possible, but I definitely see myself doing something. What that might be is anyone’s guess at this point, but at least I know I have a piece to pull out whatever the occasion! I stopped by the Hill House Home summer collection preview last month and they generously gifted me two items – this spicy red + white gingham corset top, and this pretty periwinkle blue dress. While the top coordinates with this matching miniskirt, I love how it looks with white jeans for a more casual night out ensemble! It’s such a festive, fun piece for summer and I adore the silhouette.
If you’ve got big Independence Day plans, don’t miss more of my favorite styles in red, white and blue below!
